How to spruce up your rental

The colder it gets, the more we stay in, and the more annoyed we get by that unorganised kitchen, or by the stark lighting in our bathroom.

If the house is yours, making changes is a no-brainer and even a fun project to tackle. If, on the other hand, you’re renting, the thought of spending money and time on someone else’s property - and the eventual limitations on your contract - just makes living daily with that hideous wallpaper a little more acceptable.

Well, I’m not one for compromising on aesthetic pleasure, so here are some tips I’ve adopted in my on life that made THE BIGGEST difference, don’t cost too much and are easy to remove in case you move on to greener pastures.

Cordless lamps

Lighting is not only practical, but also one of the best tools to set a mood. The cordless options we have in the market right now are perfect for adding luminosity to a dark corner, creating a beautiful and functional work-from-home space, lighting the inside of your wardrobe - all without depending on plugs.

Removable wallpaper

The transformative power of wallpaper is well known. You don’t need much of it to make an impact, and today the removable options are endless! Use them on an accent wall, the back of a bookshelf, or go completely bold and cover your whole powder room in it.

Pretty storage

If you’re renting, chances are that the storage at your place was not custom made for your life. Things that didn’t even cross my mind before moving - like a total lack of kitchen cabinetry, for example - suddenly became big issues not only aesthetically, but also practically. So in comes my marvellous kitchen cart with a steel top, that not only houses all of my supplies and tools, but serves as additional surface space and makes my kitchen look like it belongs to a cool professional chef. To you that might be an ottoman that to store your blankets, or beautiful canisters for your pantry. Storage doesn’t have to be plastic drawers and ugly hangers. We can do better than that!

Final touches

To add that final touch of personality to your rental, choosing special pieces that you’ll be able to take with you when you move is sooo satisfying! You can splurge on decor items that you know you’ll love - and have - forever. Things that will help elevate your living experience, even when renting. Be it a designer vase, some artwork that you love, beautiful coffee table books or a luxury home fragrance, these types of accents are what truly make a house a home.
